Create your own stackable fabric Christmas tree with this PDF pattern and detailed sewing tutorial. The tree is designed in three levels: base, middle, and top cone, that can be stacked together to stand 14.5” tall, or you can opt for a smaller version using just the middle and top levels for a height of 11”.
The tree is reversible, made with polar fleece on one side and soft minky fabric on the other, with foam and stabilizer inside to give it structure and stability. You can choose which side to display for different textures or colors.
Important: To ensure your tree holds its shape, especially when hanging toys, it is essential to use an iron-on stabilizer inside. I recommend medium weight stabilizer for the polar fleece + minky + foam version. If you choose to make the tree from cotton fabric, consider using even heavier stabilization for best results or two layers of medium weight stabilizer.
This pattern is perfect for a holiday DIY project and lets you make a free-standing tree that can hold lightweight ornaments or fabric toys, and you can customize its height and look.
Size of finished tree:
- Three levels (base, middle, and top cone) stacked together: 14.5” tall × 8.5” diameter at the base
- Two levels (middle and top cone) stacked together: 11” tall × 7” diameter at the middle base
PDF file Includes:
-
Step-by-Step photo tutorial featuring over 60 high-quality images, accompanied by detailed written instructions for each step (meticulously illustrated and easy-to-follow sewing steps).
- Fabric cut measurements.
- A list of required materials and tools.
Materials:
- Minky fabric - 0.5 yard cut
- Polar fleece fabric / anti-pill fleece fabric (heavy weight)- 0.5 yard cut
- Foam - 1 yard cut*
- Medium weight iron on stabilizer - 1 yard cut
- Sewing Thread. Two spools of thread matching the color of the minky and fleece fabrics.
- Hook and loop sew on strips or squares*
* The required fabric size for cut can vary based on where you purchase it. Different fabric rolls come in various widths. To ensure you have enough, I recommend purchasing a 1-yard cut of foam and stabilizer from your local fabric store, as sometimes this fabric comes in a single layer.
* To attach lightweight toys to the tree, I use hook and loop squares or dots. It’s important to choose ones with a non-adhesive back. I don’t use the iron on type because they’re difficult to remove. Instead, I use regular sew on pieces. You can also get sew on hook and loop strips and cut them into squares.
